All design decisions and product selections were subject to a rigorous review process by internal stakeholders and independent consultants. An ‘experience centre’ was created where team members could evaluate proposed products and finishes prior to final selection. “Movement” was used as the over-arching theme for design decisions connecting to the theme of “getting Auckland moving”.

There was a strong emphasis on flexibility and cost efficiency, and elements of the previous building fitout were re purposed or re-used where possible. 50% of the existing furniture was reused and supplemented with new sit-to-stand workstations with varied finishes to help with way-finding and giving individuals a sense of place. The entire organisation went to mobile technology which allowed full flexibility and future proofing.

Floors were generally planned as team neighbourhoods in a radial layout with side natural light and taller elements located closer to the interior of the building. A hot-desk approach with workstations unowned and a clear-desk policy was implemented. Centrally located lockers provided for personal storage. A range of collaborative break out spaces are disbursed through the space to provide flexibilty in workspaces.
